Tension, strain and stress can become held in the body as a result of physical injuries; accidents; over-whelming emotional or psychological stress; birth trauma; or, toxicity.
Craniosacral Therapy (CST) supports the body to resolve these trapped forces of tension and strain which often underlie patterns of disease and suffering, by working with the natural forces that govern your health. CST is a subtle and profound, whole body therapy using light touch. It supports your body’s innate ability to balance, restore and heal itself, as well as helping to reduce stress and build your underlying energy.
ORIGIN – CST developed from the work of an American Osteopath, Dr William Sutherland, in the early 1900s. Through insight, observation and experiments he discovered intrinsic movements of the bones of the skull and that the bones express a specific rhythm in the body more subtle than the lung or heart rhythms. He observed that these movements are inextricably linked with our physical, mental and emotional health and that any restriction of these movements will affect the expression of health and the body’s natural capacity to heal itself. All healthy tissues subtly ‘breathe’ with this rhythmic motion which can be palpated by sensitive hands.
WHO IS IT FOR? CST is suitable for people of all ages because it is so gentle and non-invasive. Some conditions that commonly respond well to treatment include:
- Stress and Anxiety
- Low Energy
- Muscular or Joint Pain
- Headaches/ Migraines
- Back or Neck Pain
WHAT TO EXPECT – In a typical craniosacral treatment you will lie fully clothed on the treatment table while I lightly place my hands on you, normally starting at your feet or shoulders. You may feel a deep sense of relaxation and possibly notice heat, tingling, pulsation or other sensations in your body.
CST is unique in its ability to treat the source of symptoms on every level, whether mental, physical or emotional. After a treatment you may feel a sense of wellbeing, energised, balanced, connected, clear headed and better resourced. For best results a series of treatments is recommended.
